Mini-Grant Instructions and Application Download the Application here: Mini-Grant Proposal Form [Microsoft Word Format] The purpose of the Farmingdale Teacher Center Mini-Grant Program is to encourage teachers to develop projects and explore educational opportunities for their students. This program enables educators to design, implement and assess replicable, innovative ideas. These activities should be designed to support the New York State Standards and Assessments. This opportunity encourages useful instructional and/or professional development resources throughout the District. Teachers who are awarded a Mini-Grant are required to pay for all expenses involved in the development and implementation of the Mini-Grant. When the final report is submitted in May and the Policy Board has approved it, teachers will be reimbursed for expenses incurred. I. Individuals and Teams An applicant may submit more than one proposal. Each proposal is evaluated individually on merit, since the identities of the applicants will be unknown to the readers. INDIVIDUALS: Awards to individuals will not exceed $750. TEAMS: Awards to teams will not exceed three members at $750 each, totaling $2250. Teams must designate one member as the coordinator and submit a completed Data Form, found within this packet, for each member of the team, if they are to receive payment for professional time. II. Assistance for Application Teacher Center staff members will offer workshops entitled Writing Mini Grants Proposals for individuals, teams, and collaborations. Participants will learn how to identify and express a need, create a work plan and assessment, develop a budget, and address replication. Examples of successful mini-grants are available at the Teacher Center.
If you have any questions, FTC staff members are available to help. Please call. FTC Phone number (516-752-6539) III. Eligibility The Mini-Grant Program is open to any educator employed with the Farmingdale School District, which includes La Salle Regional Elementary School, Our Lady of Lourdes and Bethesda School, who has submitted the required application. · Any applicant, who has not completed the requirements for a Mini-Grant, previously awarded, will be disqualified from participating in three subsequent grant rounds. IV. Rating Awards are based on merit. Proposals are fully funded or may be returned for clarification. A committee of TC Policy Board members rates proposals. The location and identity of the applicant(s) and school(s) remain anonymous. Applications will be given a numerical score and ranked from highest to lowest. The Teacher Center Policy Board screens all rated applications for compliance to application procedures and retains authority for final approval of grants. The scoring for each of the six components of the narrative is detailed and weighted in the Rating Rubrics. Please refer to the Rating Rubric, enclosed in this packet, for criteria in completing each component of the Proposal. V. Awards and Restrictions Awards requesting payment for educator's professional time in project development is limited to five hours of curriculum writing or 10 hours of staff development calculated at the contractual rate. All equipment purchased with grant money is on loan to the teacher but remains the property of the Farmingdale Teacher Center. Monetary awards will be made upon completion of final report and documentation of expenses. An award made to a team is divided equally among all members. Mini-Grant funding is designed to support teachers seeking unique professional growth opportunities and not to substitute for school district's obligation to provide staff development activities. Grant awards cannot be used for school or district responsibilities such as substitute teacher's pay, textbooks, audiovisual equipment, and computer hardware and software. Applications will be rejected if grant money is budgeted for such expenses. Recipients may be invited to present the final report to the FTC Policy Board.
